Irène Némirovsky’s posthumous Suite Française has become a publishing phenomenon, selling more than half a million copies since its publication in 2006. As those who know it are keenly aware, Némirovsky was killed by the Nazis before she had a chance to write the last three sections of what she intended to be a five-part work. As Claire Messud wrote in Bookforum, Némirovsky’s “hope in the midst of hopelessness is a rare gift.”As they were being deported to concentration camps, Némirovsky and her husband, like so many other German Jews, sent their two young daughters, then five and seven, to live under assumed identities—in this case in a Catholic boarding school in the south of France—which enabled them to survive the war. The younger daughter, Elisabeth Gille, became a well-known French publisher, and chronicled her wartime experiences in her own novel, Shadows of a Childhood.Originally

Editorial : From Library Journal Gille was just five when her mother, Russian writer Irene Nemirovsky, was deported to Auschwitz, and the two never heard from each other again. This work is a fictionalized account of their wrenching separation and a piercing look at what it means to survive mass genocide. Told in the voice of Lea Levy, the book spans 13 years?from the Jewish child's arrival in a French convent school following her parents' arrest by the Germans to her college years at the Sorbonne. Throughout, it asks essential and timeless questions: What does it mean to witness widespread atrocity? Is evil endemic to the human condition? What is Jewish identity? Why does anti-Semitism persist? In addition, the book uses Lea's friendship with a spirited, slightly older Christian girl to explore the possibilities of healing intense childhood trauma. Gille, who died in 1996, was posthumously awarded France's prestigious Grand Prix de Lectrices in 1997 for this novel of understated grace and enormou

As a feminist and queer, I especially enjoyed the essays discussing straight-edge feminism and the queer-edge movement. It does NOT detail the chemical separation or metalurgical processes.. I rely on reviews when making purchases so I only provide my honest opinion.. I'd give him a half a star for thatbut, they don't seem to give half stars here. It was a very easy to read, light-hearted and humorous, yet also contained deep philosophical ideas. This book takes you away into a whole new world. They may very well skip the reading of equations without any loss in understanding of how SPC works and how to use it in practice.
In my opinion the book of James R. Studying this large format book allows the reader to see where the tracks went back then, whether or not they are still with us today. I have gifted this book to so many. I very much enjoyed reading it. The writing is simple, yet poetic and it really makes you curious as to what each of the mythical beasts actually are. Beverly
